This project addressed a few issues, with Western views on a west-east oriented site and a brief for a modern family home that could provide for working from home, additional business and camping storage needs and an outdoor North Queensland lifestyle.

This home is positioned on it's site so that the west facing rooms shield and shade the entertaining spaces and north facing living spaces from the heat and glare of the afternoon sun. Window placements are designed to maximise the natural light and breezes, whilst capturing the distant landscape views. Eaves and window hoods provide weather protection and considered seasonal shading.

Striking a balance between public and private, this family home satisifes the needs of both a business and a family with generous bedrooms, a spa like family bath, coordinating master ensuite and guest bathroom, generous living areas and a home work space. Discrete utility areas and clean lined storage combine with the thoughtful arrangement of spaces to create an uncluttered and calm home. The honed concrete floor runs throughout the home, providing thermal mass when it receIves winter sun, whilst summer shading leaves it cool and comfortable. The bathroom spaces transition to tiled finishes. With flush doorways, hobless showers and no glass screens the modern bathrooms are comfortable to use whilst being low maintenance.

The central garden provides a connection to nature for the living spaces, allowing natural light and filtered breezes into the home corridors, lounge, dining and kitchen spaces. The attractive kitchen is the heart of the home in bold black, white, and timber finishes with generous proportions and a functional layout.
